Units of measure (UOM)

Units of Measure (UOM) define how quantities are expressed on BOM parts and components. Examples include pieces, meters, kilograms, or liters. Every part and component requires a UOM, so you need at least one before you can create parts (Parts) or components (Components).

Create a UOM

  1. Go to Global Properties / Units of Measure.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Fill in the fields:
FieldWhat it does
NameTranslatable name of the unit (for example, Pieces or Meters). Use the locale switcher to add translations.
DescriptionOptional note about when or how this unit is used.
  1. Click Save.

The UOM is now available in the UOM selector on parts and components.

Edit a UOM

  1. Click the edit icon on the row.
  2. Update the Name or Description.
  3. Click Save.

Changes to the name are reflected everywhere the UOM is already in use.

Delete a UOM

Select the UOM using the checkbox and click Delete in the action bar, or click the trash icon on the row.

caution

The delete button is disabled for the default UOM. Before you can delete it, another UOM must take the default role.

Best practice

Create your full set of UOMs before you start building parts and components. A small, well-defined list (for example, pcs, m, kg, l) keeps BOM data consistent and makes filtering and reporting predictable.
