Imports
The Imports tab is the first step in setting up a 3D visualization. You upload the source files for your 3D model here, and the platform processes them. A successful import creates any attributes that can be found in your hierarchy.
What you can import
Always make sure to import your files as .fbx since this is the only filetype that will keep your models in the correct hierarchy structure.
Importing a model
- Open the product in Visualization › 3D Visualization and select the Imports tab.
- Click Import wizard.
- On the upload step, either drag files onto the drop zone or click Add files and select them. Click Upload all to start the transfer, then click Next.
- On the options step, configure how the platform processes the files (see the table below), then click Import.
- The progress step shows the import job running. When it completes, the wizard closes and the new import appears in the list with a Success badge.

Import options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Import as | Configurable Model — the platform reads the model's node hierarchy and creates configurable parts. Plain Model — treats the model as a static asset with no configurable structure. |
| Reuse material | When enabled, the importer searches your material library for existing materials that match those in the file and links them instead of creating duplicates. |
| Material compare function | Controls how the importer decides whether a material already exists. Create hash from material properties — compares visual properties Use material name — compares by name only. Available when Reuse material is on. |
| Put new materials in | Choose an existing folder from your material library, or select the option to create a new folder and enter a name. Materials extracted from the import land here. |
| Reuse textures | When enabled, the importer checks your media library for matching textures before uploading new ones. |
| Put new textures in | Choose a media folder for any textures extracted from the import. |
| SKU detection | Controls how the importer maps model nodes to product SKUs. Detect automatically checks for _PartSKU suffixes first and falls back to automatic generation. Only explicit _PartSKU suffix requires the suffix to be present. Generate models based on unique options always generates automatically. Implicit SKUs reads SKU nodes placed directly under option nodes. Available for Configurable Model imports. |
Managing existing imports
The imports list shows every import for this product. Each row displays the model name and a status badge:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Success | The model processed without errors and is ready to use. |
| Progressing | The import job is still running. |
| Error | Processing failed. |
A Success import may also show a Warnings badge if the processor encountered non-fatal issues. Click the badge to read the warning messages.
For a completed import, click view to open the model browser and inspect the node tree. The dropdown next to the button lets you download the original source files or delete the import.
Deleting an import that is already in use will break the visualization. Make sure to have a next import ready to reduce the downtime of the visualization
This is the same import wizard as in v1. In v1 you reached it through the Configure tab of a product. Now it has its own tab.
