3D visualization

A 3D visualization holds everything the 3D viewer needs to render a product: the 3D models, the scene, and the 3D options, material groups and positions it can switch between. The customer never sees these 3D options. They only choose from your catalog attributes (Attributes). The visualization mapping (Visualization mapping) translates each catalog attribute value into the matching 3D option or material group behind the scenes. You build and manage 3D visualizations under Visualization › 3D Visualization in the backoffice.

How it fits together

Clicking 3D Visualization in the side navigation opens a product list. Each row is a product that can carry a 3D visualization. You click a product to open its visualization detail, which contains a set of tabs you work through in order:

#TabWhat you do there
1ImportsUpload one or more 3D model files and watch the importer process them.
2Model treeReview the parsed node hierarchy from the imported model, map nodes to configuration attributes, and generate the initial configuration.
3AttributesThe 3D options the model can switch between. Catalog attribute values are mapped to them.
4Material groupsThe material slots of the model. Catalog attributes with a material mapping are mapped to them. They can stay empty or hold a single default material.
5Offsets groupsReview the positions in the model and mark the ones that act as connectors (snapping points). Offset groups
6ShowcaseArrange the scene in the built-in scene editor: place lights, set camera angles, and position supporting assets around the product model.
7RulesScene behaviour, such as camera moves and offsets. Option logic belongs in catalog rules.
8PreviewRender the fully configured scene in read-only mode to verify the end result before publishing.

3D visualization tabs

You typically work through the tabs in the order above. Imports must succeed before you can use the generated configuration which contains the attribute and material group steps.

Linking a visualization to a product

You can also reach the visualization attachment from the product editor. Open a product under (Edit), scroll to the Visualizations section, and click Add 3D. This creates a visualization mapping entry that connects the product to the 3D visualization you have configured here.

A product can have more than one 3D visualization mapping. For example, a default scene and an alternate scene for a specific sales channel.

Coming from v1

In v1, 3D setup lived on the product page, split across the Configure, Showcase and Rules tabs. Now it has its own section under Visualization › 3D Visualization, with every step as a top-level tab. The v1 Meta / Basics, Graph, Parts and Version tabs are not part of this section.
